The 10th annual ‘Shoot for a Cure’ Soccer Tournament benefitting the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer was held on April 26-28 at The Plex North (Hefner Soccer Fields).

Over 100 teams from throughout the Midwest descended on Fort Wayne for this weekend-long, pink-themed event. Along with individual team fundraising, the tournament received contributions through a Vera Bradley silent auction, pink merchandise sold from the Summit City Soccer Shop at The Plex, pink ribbon sales, a 3 Mile “Walk for the Cause” and more.

Fort Wayne United FC hosts this tournament annually as a way to help young players make a real difference in the world through the sport they love. Everything in the tournament is focused on “thinking pink”. Players are encouraged to wear as much of this symbolic color as possible to create a sea of pink on the soccer fields.

Just over $10,000 was raised during the course of the weekend -- surpassing the total amount raised in the previous year. “We are very proud to put on the event and to contribute to this great Foundation”, said FW United Director of Operations, Bobby Poursanidis. “Thank you to all the teams and families who took part in this extraordinary weekend. Our success is due to a total group effort from teams, coaches, managers and, especially, volunteers”.

Preparations are already underway for the 2020 Shoot for a Cure tournament when we will work together towards the goal of surpassing $100,000 in total donations!
